Outpatient Rotation Objectives
Know and apply the current colon cancer screening and surveillance guidelines
Identify patients at increased risk for colon cancer (FH, IBD, Revised Amsterdam Criteria for HNPCC)
Evaluate patients with a clinical presentation of GERD and be able to make further treatment recommendations and/or further testing
Be able to apply the ROME criteria to the diagnosis of the most common functional bowel disorders (IBS, dyspepsia, functional bloating) and indications for endoscopy
Be able to differentiate UC and Crohn’s and know the impact on treatment decisions
Evaluate patients with dysphagia and be able to select the proper diagnostic testing
Evaluate elevated LFTs
Recognize patient with cirrhosis and management of complications
Diagnose and evaluate iron deficiency anemia
Inpatient Rotation Objectives
Evaluation and initial treatment of non-variceal upper GI bleeding
Evaluation and initial treatment of variceal upper GI bleeding
Recognize gallstone disease, including cholangitis, and know indications for ERCP
Diagnosis and initial management of pancreatitis and work-up for the etiology
Be able to identify and manage risk factors for peptic ulcer disease
